Mind After Dark

Privacy Policy

Mind After Dark (“we”, “us”, “the Site”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect at wmental.blog, why we collect it, and what control you have over it.

1. Who We Are

Mind After Dark is an independent publication about psychology, neuroscience and human behavior. The data controller for this Site can be reached at contact@wmental.blog.

2. Information We Collect

Information you give us

Contact form. When you use our contact form we collect the name, email address and message you submit. This information is used only to reply to you and is not sold or shared with third parties.

Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store your email address in order to send our weekly email. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of every email, which removes your address from our list.

Comments. Where comments are enabled, we store the name, email address, comment text, IP address and browser user-agent string you submit. An anonymized hash of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture; Gravatar’s privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy.

Information collected automatically

Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which articles are read and how visitors find us. It collects pseudonymized data such as pages viewed, approximate location (country/city level), device type, browser and referring source. We do not use it to identify you personally.

Search Console. Google Search Console reports aggregated, non-identifying data about the search queries that lead to our pages.

Server and security logs. Our hosting provider records standard technical data such as IP address, request time and user agent for security, abuse prevention and troubleshooting.

3. Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We use them for:

  • Essential functions — keeping the site working, remembering form state and caching pages for speed.
  • Analytics — Google Analytics cookies that measure traffic in aggregate.

If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email and website in cookies for convenience; these last one year. You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies may affect how the Site functions.

4. Embedded Content From Other Websites

Articles on this Site may include embedded content (for example videos, images or research links). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you had visited that website directly, and those sites may collect data about you, use cookies and monitor your interaction with the embedded content.

5. Advertising

The Site may display advertising in the future. If and when advertising is introduced, third-party ad providers may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads. This policy will be updated before any such system goes live, and where required we will request your consent first.

6. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

Where the GDPR applies, we process personal data on the basis of: your consent (newsletter, comments, non-essential cookies); our legitimate interest in operating, securing and improving the Site (analytics, server logs); and contractual necessity where you have asked us to respond to an enquiry.

7. How Long We Keep Your Data

  • Contact form submissions — retained up to 12 months, then deleted.
  • Newsletter subscriptions — retained until you unsubscribe.
  • Comments — retained indefinitely so follow-up replies remain readable, unless you ask us to remove them.
  • Analytics data — retained according to Google Analytics’ own retention settings.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, request its correction or deletion, object to or restrict processing, withdraw consent at any time, and receive an export of your data. To exercise any of these rights, email contact@wmental.blog. We aim to respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

9. Data Security and Transfers

The Site is served over HTTPS and hosted on managed infrastructure with standard security controls. Some of our service providers (such as Google) are based outside your country, which may involve transferring data internationally under the safeguards those providers maintain. No online transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children

This Site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the Site evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a revised “last updated” date. Continued use of the Site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

12. Contact

Questions about privacy or your data? Email contact@wmental.blog or use our contact page.
